Selecting a ColdFusion Hosting Provider

Check out my just published Adobe Developer Center article How to select a ColdFusion hosting provider. The article outlines what you need to know when choosing a CF web hosting provider. Leave comments on your CF hosting experiences good or bad.

Thus far the two best ColdFusion Hosting providers I've had the pleasure in dealing with are:

In Canada. Alentus has proven to be reliable, knowledgeable and secure. Wade Hovind in their ColdFusion administrator and he really knows his stuff.

States side you cannot go wrong with HostMySite flawless service thus far (knock on wood).

Comments
Since I'm from Canada, I looked at your Alentus suggestion. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find any Coldfusion hosting plan, they were all .Net. Was it a custom order that you placed with that company? I've been using nexpoint.net without any issues so far.

Hello

I would like to deploy my new Flex 2 application. All the ISPs I contacted do not support Flex 2. Any suggestion?

Thanks

Luca Flex 2 compiles down the a swf binary file. So you deploy it the same as you would any flash file. So what really matter is what your server side is going to be. If its Coldfusion you can use flash remoting which is supported on Coldfusion MX 7.02 machines. If you host on a ColdFusion MX 7.02 server then Flash remoting is an option. Otherwise you can communcate to any php, asp, cfm, jsp as an http service sending and recieiving xml formated data. The third option you can communicate via Web Services and Soap. Study this application http://ryanfavro.newmediateam.com/blog/index.cfm/2... it uses an Http service that retuns a Coldfusion tempate with xml formated to data as an example. I hope this helps.

I would like to thank you for your quick answer. I still need your help on how to find a ISP for a Flex2 applications.
I forgot to mention that I use Cold Fusion Components to communicate with a database. So from your answer the only thing I need to worry is to find a ColdFusion MX 7.02 server.

Somebody else mentioned something else:"I think you will also need to know the location of where the flex gateway was installed, for your project file, when creating the app (it will tell the SWF where to look for the gateway on the hosted server)."

What do you think?

Thanks

I have been hosted with hostingatoz.com for about an year. They do offer ColdFusion 7.0.2 MX Enterprise hosting. I donno much about FLEX but as mentioned that you are looking for CF 7.0.2 ISP, I thought I should recommend you them.

I've had a wonderful time working with HostMySite on everything from basic plans up to multiple dedicated servers. Support is phenomenal. So naturally when I grabbed a project involving a Flex2 front end, I looked there. On a whim I searched the forum and came up with this post <a href='http://forums.hostmysite.com/about2392.html'>http://forums.hostmysite.com/about2392.html</a> regarding the use of RemoteObject and issues that other developers have had.

Can anyone confirm / refute this? I really want to stick with these guys, but no RemoteObject is a show stopper.

I have been using [gritted teeth] godaddy [/gritted teeth] for cf hosting. They are the cheap cheap cheap. The only applications i have deployed are CMS' and basic database querying. Everthing i have done has worked flawlessly. I believe they disable cfobject by default, they have little/no documentation on their site concerning CF and their support is a Joke - "whats coldfusion?? does it keep your beer cold?" - not quite that bad, but close. for 2.99US on top of their el cheapo shared hosting, you can't go wrong for basic apps.

Hi Ryan,
Nice to see your example for multi file uploading.
I am new to Flex, and ned to implement in similar kind of your example given.
I have one doubt on your code. In your code, the request is going to the server for each file.
(n times for uploading n files)
I have a requirement that need to create a directory dynamically in the server and need to put all files in that directory.
But when do as i this example, for each file a new directory is creating.

Can you have any suggession on this to resolve this issue sothat all files will be sent in one request or else

Thanks in advance
Pavan
