I agree with Adam.

My hosting company provides me with Awstats and is good, but once I tried Google Analytics I had to start using that one as well, it is much, much easier to use and the information is nicely presented to you.

I used statcounter and did not like their free service because it does not provide long term information...unless your site only gets a couple of monthly visitors. I imagine that their paid service is very thorough though.
