Really Simple Flex File Download Example

I got a few requests asking how to download files from a server with Flex 2. In response I created this fast and dirty example to illustrate how it can be done. View Source is enabled and I have also commented the code to provide explanation to what is going on.

Selecting a ColdFusion Hosting Provider

Check out my just published Adobe Developer Center article How to select a ColdFusion hosting provider. The article outlines what you need to know when choosing a CF web hosting provider. Leave comments on your CF hosting experiences good or bad.

Thus far the two best ColdFusion Hosting providers I've had the pleasure in dealing with are:

In Canada. Alentus has proven to be reliable, knowledgeable and secure. Wade Hovind in their ColdFusion administrator and he really knows his stuff.

States side you cannot go wrong with HostMySite flawless service thus far (knock on wood).

Over time this will change, as we near completion. From here on in I will chronicle the development of the project, starting with today's build.

Sun MicroSystems Lost My Business

Yesterday afternoon I was trying to purchase an entry-level rack mount server for a project my company is working on. Initially I was planning on purchasing a Dell (out of convenience) but on a whim I decided to investigate what HP and IBM where offering. I quickly ruled out HP, as they don't sell servers direct in Canada and IBM was in my opinion was over priced for what I needed. I was resolved once again to purchasing from Dell when I just remember that Sun now offers reasonably prices Windows and Linux servers. So off to Sun's website (Canadian Site) I go. Unfortunately Sun's Canadian web site didn't seem to offer online direct sales so I called them instead with some pre sales questions. Despite my pre sales questions I was already convinced I wanted a Sun server too bad Sun wouldn't sell it to me.
